(Kaieteur News) – An unarmed guard was held at gunpoint as bandits stormed and robbed the Yilong Chinese Supermarket at 621 La Penitence, Georgetown, on Sunday.
Reports are that the bandits grabbed an unknown amount of cash from the cash register before making good their escape.
Investigators said that the armed robbery took place around 19:11 hrs and said there were four men on two motorcycles wearing ski-masks. One of them was reportedly armed with a handgun.
Reports are that the quartet arrived on their motorcycles, and stopped in front of the supermarket. The pillion riders came off the motorcycles and walked into the supermarket. The bandit armed with the gun fired a shot into the ceiling and held on to the unarmed security guard while the others entered the cashier area.
The men snatched the cash from the register and dumped it into a red backpack after which they left the supermarket and made good their escape on the motorcycles.
Investigations are ongoing.
