(Kaieteur News) – A lifelong friendship turned deadly in Belvedere, Corentyne, as police in Region Six investigate the alleged murder of 56-year-old Imran Kadir, known locally as “Shut Pon Shoulder.”
Dead is Imran Kadir, of Lot D King Street, Belvedere Settlement, Corentyne, Berbice, who was on Sunday morning discovered dead in his yard.
Kadir was reportedly consuming alcohol on Saturday with the suspect, 32-y-o Joel Ramsammy, called ‘Scotty’, who hails from the same neighbourhood. Subsequently the two were involved in a fight. The next day, Kadir was found in a pool of blood, based on information provided by the police.
Mara Renee, called “Anna,” who lives obliquely opposite both Imran and Joel, provided details to the police on what she recalled. On the date and time mentioned, both Kadir and Ramsammy were imbibing alcohol at Ramsammy’s home when the host allegedly began to hit Kadir and chase him from his yard. Kadir left and returned to his own home. Shortly after, Ramsammy went to Kadir’s home, where he dealt the man several blows with a piece of wood, and then returned to his own home.
On Sunday, at approximately 09:00 hours, Renee visited Kadir’s home to check on him, but found him lying still. A report was made at the Albion Police Station, and the police were summoned. They were able to contact the suspect who was informed of the allegation, cautioned, arrested, and escorted to the Albion Police Station, where he was placed in custody and is assisting with the investigation.
Officers were also able to recover a piece of wood which had what appeared to be blood stains. The body of the deceased was escorted to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where doctor Rahaman examined the body and certified him dead. The body was then taken to Ramoo’s Funeral Parlour, awaiting Post Mortem Examination.
Kadir had made a prior report of assault committed against him by Ramsammy, but as the matter was heard at the Albion Magistrate Court, Kadir offered no evidence, and the two maintained their social activities.
Meanwhile, 55-year-old Khemraj Ganputh, a neighbuor of the deceased man, told reporters in Berbice that on Saturday, he saw the suspect advancing towards the victim’s yard with a piece of wood and he cautioned him to stay away from the man’s home, but he was ignored. At that time, Kadir was in his hammock, the neighbour related. The suspect then made his way into the man’s yard, and Ganputh stated that he could not get to see into the yard from his position a short distance away. “He go in the man’s yard, and the man sickly too. I didn’t hear any hollering or so…this morning I peep over there…a girl called me from over the road and tell me to come across, so I went across and I see the man flat on the ground,” Ganputh said. Both the suspect and victim, he said, were drinking buddies. He also told reporters that Kadir’s family members are mostly overseas.
