(Kaieteur News) – Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) Shaik Baksh said the water company is addressing the digital transformation of GWI to provide efficient services to consumers.
Speaking at a commissioning ceremony on Saturday, the CEO stated the transformation is aligned with Guyana’s e-government initiative.
“The other area which we are addressing is the digital transformation of GWI. This is being aligned with the Government of Guyana e-government programme and we are seeking advice from them and we are moving very swiftly along this line. Already, we have a portal dashboard being developed to support the technical effort of GWI,” Baksh related.
President Irfaan Ali and his government is pursuing a national digitisation programme across the public sector to improve efficiency, enhance transparency and ensure the ease of doing business for Guyanese.
During his remarks, Baksh admitted that the GWI has been facing many challenges. He said the company is on the move to ensure a greater level of efficiency and production.
“In this regard we have already restructured some of the departments including the operations department, to ensure level of service of water and water quality is delivered. So, we have already done that, we are making some organisational changes because I am not happy with what is taking place with the complaints, like customers and the delivery of quality of service to the population as a whole and we are initiating several changes to turn around this area and ensuring we use the new technology that is available,” he explained.
The CEO added that changes are being made at the regional levels to ensure greater efficiency operations. “We are zoning some of the regions to ensure that is done, put in more competent staff to ensure we have a faster response to customer complaints,” he affirmed.
