14-year-old, carpenter arrested for weed stashed in speaker box
(Kaieteur News) – Police have arrested a 14-year-old who was a passenger in a vehicle that contained 22 pounds of cannabis concealed in a speaker box. The teen, of New Amsterdam, Berbice was arrested along with the driver of a white Toyota Permio driven by a 43-year-old carpenter also of New Amsterdam.

According to a police report, the cannabis was seized by ranks of the Fort Wellington Police Station on Thursday during a police stop and search exercise at Cotton Tree public road, West Coast Berbice.
In a statement on Saturday, the Guyana Police Force said that the confiscation occurred at about 23:40h.
“During the operation, the ranks stopped a white Toyota Premio driven by a 43-year-old carpenter of New Amsterdam, Berbice, who was accompanied by a 14-year-old of the said area.
A search of the vehicle was conducted in the presence of the occupants during which the ranks discovered several bulky plastic wrapped parcels, concealed within a speaker box located in the trunk.”

Police said that upon examination, the parcels contained a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems weighing approximately 22 pounds. The driver claimed ownership of the suspected narcotics.
The narcotics, vehicle, and related items have been lodged as exhibits.
