(Kaieteur News) – It took a while, but slowly dawns the reason why Bharrat Jagdeo was grinning like a Cheshire cat. A whole gang of laffin, smirking, purring felines. Mark it down to the aging process on this side, but there are still those wits that recognise Guyana’s master political Houdini at the top of his game.
When a man is good, I have no qualms in saying that he is good. Look at what he did to the PNC, how he made Congress Place into a floating riverboat of gamblers, connivers, and political chain snatchers (no to WIN). The PNC is now PPP, and god help those who think of getting in the middle. ‘Not me, I is smaatah dan dah. Eye jinin de PPP.’ Like de ‘maan’ at GECOM once said, ‘goat ain’t bite he.’ If not he, then why not me? If the PNC done gone and left hopeful Guyanese voters on their own, then how could any Guyanese be asked to look upon the PPP (and Jagdeo) as being part of the devil’s laboratory? If the PNC could do that much with the PPP to shaft the sweet folks in WIN, then there is no merit in people like me continuing down the contrarian road.
What the PNC did during those conspiracies involving Regional Democratic Councils is copout, sellout, sickout, fallout, and out of their minds at Congress Place. If not conspiracy, then what is the next best label? Whose idea was that? The better question is this one: what is in it for the PNC, the ones who stayed faithful to the Palm Tree because they knew that good things from the PPP were on the way. I have to admit that that is looking at the PNC crossing the floor from a negative angle.
There are other angles that add a positive sheen to the PPP-PNC axis (of evil??) relative to those regional bodies. Things are now so bad for PNC diehards that even the little pride they had left has been taken away from them, sold from under their feet. Now try this little saving grace, this little face-saving effort, from my side of the aisle. Be informed upfront that it is all Bharrat (Dr.) Jagdeo.
Did he perform an operation or what on the PNC and Congress Place! It is Jagdeo at his devilish best. Jagdeo the angler – using the PNC to narrow down and squeeze out the WIN people. Jagdeo the composer of that RDC hymnbook from which the PNC sang lustily – to deliver a Pearl Harbor sneak attack leading to the Funeral March symphony for WIN. I can hear echoes of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, 85 years later, this day will live in infamy. For unsuspecting Americans, it was Sunday, December 1941.
For sleepy Guyanese, the picture of lethargy, it was Friday, October 10, 2025. Guyana’s own day when a foul wind blew across this nation, and swept the PNC into the arms of the PPP. Cheddi Jagan must be kicking up his heels and rejoicing at that come-to-Jesus moment (pardon the sacrilege, please). Forbes Burnham must be chewing on his nails, kicking up a stink, while the other part of his head is thinking from where the hell did that one come. What took the PNC from out of the dungeon and into the PPP dumpsite at Haags Bosch. Toxic, this is not; only the newest edition of PPP-PNC politics. If this move by the PNC wasn’t so obscene, it would be comical. What is there to laff about? Don’t look at me. Redirect attention to the people at WIN.
Further, it is Bharrat Jagdeo the conductor, swinging his baton in calculated and sure arcs: not one wrong note: anyone but WIN. All the singers and dancers moving in a smooth, seamless dance. It is the PPP-PNC danse macabre that makes WIN into a lose-lose proposition.
Mastermind and master political footballer Jagdeo cannot stand up to Exxon for the benefit of Guyanese. ‘But Jagdeo, the arranger and ultra-orchestrator can get the PNC fuh tie bundle wid hee and send WIN into the wilderness.’ I am already there in that rocky place, so there is a blanket of kindness available to soften the fall and the hurt.
Dr. Jagdeo is in theater, the uber orchestrator. Go there! Do that! Sit down! Standup! Shut up! Step across. Happened before. One man took rubber bullets from the PPP and now has fallen in love with the party. If he, then why not the other PNC stragglers checking out for themselves how the PPP can take care of them.
The PNC has exceeded ambitions, visions, expectations. Bharrat Jagdeo is just his normal, ole self. Sorry for the low note letdown, folks. I think I’ll checkout what the PPP has in mind for me. Aside from gold smuggling.
