(Kaieteur News) – An 18-month-old child and her grandparents received injuries on Friday after being knifed by their neighbor during a row at a traffic stop at Coverden, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
According to police, the wounding incident was committed on Indira Thomas, a 53-year-old Housewife of Coverden, EBD, her husband William Thomas, a 68-year-old Businessman, and their 18-month-old granddaughter.
“The wounding incident occurred at approximately 15:30 hrs. yesterday (Friday, 10th October 2025) at Coverden, East Bank Demerara, while they were in traffic along the East Bank Road corridor. Police have since arrested the suspect, Wilfred Aaron, a 68-year-old Construction Worker from Coverden,” police said in a statement.
Investigations have revealed that the suspect and the child’s grand-parents are known to each other, since they are neighbours, but are not on speaking terms, as a result of ongoing issues.
Indira told police that she and her husband visited a Friendship, EBD daycare and play group to collect their granddaughter. On their way home, they were stuck in traffic at Land of Canaan, EBD when they encountered Aaron who used expletives on William.
It is alleged that Aaron threatened to kill the businessman, who exited his vehicle, and approached the suspect. Aaron then armed himself with a knife which he used to attack William Thomas.
Williams Thomas received wounds to his abdomen and ear while the toddler’s writst was injured. Indira Thomas attempted to part the fight sustained injuries to her elbow, palm of her hand as well as cuts on the right middle, index and ring fingers.
“The businessman managed to enter his motor car and head to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where they were all seen and examined by a doctor on duty, treated, and sent away. Investigations are in progress,” the police stated.
