Some thoughts on Diwali motorcade

Dear Editor,

I would like to share a suggestion regarding the annual Diwali Motorcade organised by the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha. This event remains one of the most beautiful celebrations of light, culture, and creativity in our country, bringing people together from all regions.

However, I believe the Sabha should consider adopting a fairer system for judging the floats, particularly in Region 4. While it is wonderful that floats from other regions such as Essequibo and Berbice are welcomed to participate in the grand motorcade at LBI, they should not be judged alongside those from Region 4. Each region should have its own competition, and the winners could then participate in the national motorcade for display purposes only — not for judging.

This approach would help maintain fairness among participants within their respective regions while still fostering unity and national pride during the main event. It would also ensure that the hard work of local teams is recognized on equal terms. I hope the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha gives this suggestion due consideration as it continues to uphold our rich cultural traditions.
