(Kaieteur News) – Two men were on Monday charged at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Teriq Mohammed for driving under the influence.
According to two separate statements from the police the men were identified as 28-year-old Nasio Forde of Friendship, East Bank Demerara and 33-year-old Lorenzo Singh, from Bartica.
Police said that Forde, “was charged for driving a motor vehicle whilst his breath alcohol level exceeded the prescribed limit. He pleaded guilty and was fined $250,000 or three months’ imprisonment.”
He was also charged with breaching the condition of prescribed fitness, for which he was fined $10,000. Singh, was charged with driving a motor vehicle whilst his breath alcohol level exceeded the prescribed limit, contrary to the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act, Amended Act which was read to him.
“He pleaded guilty and was fined $400,000 or three months’ imprisonment. He was also charged with Breach of Insurance, contrary to Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicle Insurance Third Party Risk Act, Chapter 51:03, and fined $25,000. Singh was slapped with two additional charges: Obscured ID Mark on Motor Vehicle for which he was fined $130,000, and Unlicensed Driver for which he was fined $40,000,” police said.
In total, he was fined $595,000.
