Dear Editor,
At no time during the past 10 years has CRG been hostile towards the PPPC. We may have differing opinions, but to stoop to that level and make personal attacks against the CRG claiming that it is a hostile force towards the PPPC because of the differing view with Minister Bharrat’s perspective on cash grants is the avoidance of an intelligent discussion, which the Vice
President knows he cannot win.
This is not the first time that the PPPC has used the Minister as a front to float a decision or a change in direction that they wish to pursue. On both occasions, when the proposed direction was put down by the public those in the background changed their tune leaving the Minister out to dry. The first instance of this was with the Exxon audit bill which was negotiated down from hundreds of Millions in USD of erroneous charges to less than a handful of dollars. To date the PPPC has not held the Minister nor his cohorts accountable, nor have they investigated whether there was a breach in the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).
Now with more hands in the pot, they are now trying to sell the public on eliminating the cash grant on the basis that it is a failed model. After an effective rebuttal of their proposal, the Vice President and President are now being dismissive of the Minister’s suggestion. One which he could not have come up with in isolation. The similarity with the unauthorised reduction of the audit correction, which also could not have been done in isolation, is astounding.
No one is being fooled by the farce which is being portrayed in public. The Minister speaks for the PPPC and when their plans to change course are seen as detrimental to the public purse, they revert to presenting their old position and dismissing the Minister as uninformed or misunderstood. Pointing out the obvious mistakes and grave consequences of the Minister’s position is in no way an expression of hostility towards Comrade Cheddi’s & Comrade Janet’s party. Maybe Mr. Jagdeo sees it only from the Jagdeo PPPC’s perspective.
CRG will always be a supporter of the working class. Maybe it is time for Jagdeo’s PPPC to rejoin the ranks of those upon whose shoulders the party was founded and built. Decisions that betray the trust of the hardworking people of our nation and that prevent them from receiving the direct benefits of their motherland’s resources should be pointed out and thoroughly dismissed by all hardworking Guyanese! There have been quite a few of these ill-conceived decisions and proposed changes in recent years and Minister Bharrat with the help of his supporters and mentors within the party is very attached to two such prominent missteps.
A sincere friend to our workers,
Mr. Jamil Changlee
