Kaieteur News / Radio on Friday committed to providing 10 per cent of all its advertising sales in October to assist the Guyana Cancer Foundation (GCF) in its fight against cancer.
In addition, the company will provide free advertising and coverage of all GCF’s planned events in October. Kaieteur News /Radio has made available slots to air, free of charge, four cancer programmes. The shows will be broadcast weekly and will aim to spread awareness, share survivor stories and highlight the work of the Cancer Foundation.
Further, Kaieteur News/ Radio will host a call-in programme that will allow listeners to have their questions answered by medical experts. Daily health tips will be shared on the company’s social media platforms as well as within the designated programme periods.
President, Bibi Saeedah Akhtar Hassan thanked Kaieteur Radio for playing an integral role in educating the nation about cancer. In her meeting with Kaieteur Radio’s Ajai Deochand, Ms. Hassan disclosed that the GCF has planned many activities in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
On Friday, the GCF kicked off its activities with its annual tree-wrapping exercise on Main Street, Georgetown, opposite State House.
“On the 13th (October) we have a no-bra day,” she said as she explained, “It is more of a social media event where people would just put on a bra over their shirt (men) to support women while women would go no bra to support men too and other sisters across the globe”.
Other activities include the annual breast cancer awareness walk dubbed ‘Pink Power’ is scheduled for the October 19, 2025 themed “Empower, Eradicate, Educate” and ‘Pink Friday’ being observed on October 24. A candle light vigil will also be held on October 29 in honour of persons who died from cancer.
The month’s activities will conclude with a fundraising tea party and bingo at the Cara Lodge on November 1. Tickets for event cost only $15,000.
