Kaieteur News – A 23-year-old motorcyclist was on Sunday killed in an accident along the #69 Village public road, Corentyne, Berbice.
Dead is Eric Kissoon of #72 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
According to police, the accident occurred at about 15:55h. Kissoon was reportedly driving motorcycle bearing registration number CN 7562. There were two pillion riders: a 13-year-old male student and a 28-year-old male both of whom are receiving medical attention.
“Initial investigations revealed that the motorcycle (CN 7562) was proceeding south along the eastern drive lane on the #68 Village public road, allegedly at a fast rate,” police said while noting that Kissoon was unlicensed and neither him nor the pillion riders were wearing safety helmets.
“The motorcyclist lost control while negotiating a right bend and collided with a bridge rail located on the eastern side of the road. This resulted in the motorcyclist and pillion riders receiving injuries on their bodies,” a statement from the Guyana Police Force said.
The trio were picked up and taken to the #75 Regional Hospital where they were examined by a doctor. Kissoon died while receiving treatment. His body remains at the hospital’s mortuary where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
The pillion riders remain hospitalized and their conditions are regarded as serious.
