“Cricket is in our blood and it brings us together”
Dear Editor,
Several well-placed Guyanese acknowledged and celebrated this with passion and sincerity during the just finished CPL.
Can we not take the same sentiments that cricket provides and shape the United (One) Guyana?
Players and contributors to a cricket team can be:
Tall and short
Fair-skinned and dark-skinned
Handsome and not so handsome
Skinny and not so skinny players
Christian, Hindu, Muslim
Chinese, Portuguese, Afro, Indo, Amerindian, Mixed players
Fast, medium-pace and slow bowlers
Aggressive and non-aggressive batsmen
Quick and slow runners
Fantastic and not so-fantastic fielders
Temperamental and calm players
Players from all kinds of background
Rich and poor players
Academic and non-academic players.
Individuals who:
Train together
Learn from one another
Help to identify and correct weaknesses
Work on developing new and better skills
Encourage each other
Console one another
Applaud good performances
Celebrate together
Learn to respect authority
Accept and abide by the established rules
Commit to perform to the best of their abilities to reach the common goal
Yet retain their personal identity.
As an aspiring united nation, we need to seek opportunities, no matter how small, to give everyone, whatever their status, the sense of belonging and value to TEAM (ONE) GUYANA.
Whether as Government, Opposition or Civic… we have the same wish…a better Guyana for ALL!
