Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) may have waved goodbye to their GFF Elite League crown this season, with Slingerz FC already having both hands on the trophy, but the three-time champions are refusing to go quietly. Instead, they’ve left their boots firmly stamped on the history books with a record-shattering demolition job.

In what can only be described as an absolute massacre on the pitch, GDF FC thrashed Mainstay Goldstar 36–0, the largest scoreline ever recorded in the Elite League. The result was a statement, and a harsh reminder that in football, mismatches can quickly turn into humiliations.
GDF’s front line had a field day, treating the Mainstay backline like training cones. Stephen McDonald bagged a staggering nine goals, while Quaency Fraser and Makhaya Jervis followed closely, hammering in seven apiece.
Shemar Scott made his presence felt with a clinical hat-trick, and the supporting cast chipped in too, as if the script demanded every soldier get a turn at firing shots into Mainstay’s porous net.
For GDF, the win was their 10th victory in 15 outings, pushing them up to 32 points and keeping them firmly in the hunt for a runner-up finish.
With three matches left, including a clash against Slingerz FC, the army side is marching towards a strong conclusion, even if the championship battle is already lost.
But while GDF were busy celebrating a record, the spotlight inevitably falls on Mainstay Goldstar, and not for the right reasons.
If football is called the beautiful game, then Mainstay Goldstar’s campaign has been its ugly cousin.
Conceding 36 goals in one outing is not just a bad day at the office; it’s an indictment of their entire season.
The numbers are damning; 16 games played, 174 goals conceded, and only eight scored. That’s not defending; that’s opening the floodgates and watching the tide roll in.
Their backline has been more of a revolving door than a defensive unit, and their goal difference reads like a horror story.
Opponents queuing up to pad their stats against Mainstay Goldstar and in a league that aspires to professionalism, their performances have turned fixtures into farces and left fans shaking their heads.
For the league itself, such lopsided scorelines raise uncomfortable questions. While every competition has its giants and minnows, results like 36–0 flirt with farce, threatening the credibility of what is supposed to be the pinnacle of domestic football.
Fans want to see competition, not cricket scores, and Mainstay’s capitulation has unfortunately turned them into the league’s punchline.
What Mainstay have delivered is a season-long comedy sketch, one that undermines the credibility of the Elite League. Nobody benefits from results like 36–0, not the players, not the supporters, and certainly not the reputation of Guyana’s top flight football.
Elsewhere, the weekend saw a tighter contest as Santos edged Western Tigers 1–0, courtesy of an early strike from Kymani Sealey.
The win keeps Santos sniffing around the top five, while Western Tigers will have to settle for mid-table respectability.
Meanwhile, the Elite League resumes this weekend with four exciting fixtures.
On Saturday, Western Tigers will play their final match of the season when they face seventh-placed Ann’s Grove United at 6:30 pm.
Later that night, at 9:00 pm, Fruta Conquerors take on GDF FC in a crucial showdown with relegation implications for the Tucville-based side.
The former three-time champions of the Elite League now find themselves in a must-win situation, needing victories in their remaining matches to avoid staying in the promotion/relegation playoff spot. At the moment, they sit just above bottom-placed Mainstay Gold Star on the table.
Action continues on Sunday, with the second match of the evening featuring Santos against Monedderlust. Both teams will be desperate for maximum points as they look to strengthen their standing in the league.
