Kaieteur Sports – Match three of the Massy Women’s Caribbean Premier League unfolds today between defending champion, Barbados Royals, and the Trinbago Knight Riders at the Providence National Stadium from 14:00hrs.
Royals had an excellent start to their campaign with a victory over the Guyana Amazon Warriors on Sunday. The team did well to secure their first two points despite the loss of Hayley Matthews to an injury before the start of this edition.
Royals, now under the captaincy of Chinelle Henry, will be looking to get further ahead on the leaderboard against the TKR side that has already conceded to the GAW in the opening match of the tournament.
Royals and GAW are currently on two points each, but the former leads with a superior Net Run Rate (NRR) while TKR will be trying their best against BR to hop out of the cellar.
In the opening match, GAW completed a 6-run win over TKR. Warriors posted 129-7 in their allotted overs and did well to restrict the opposition to 123-9 when the overs expired.
The match that followed saw GAW fail to restrict a rampant Royals’ batting effort despite the rain’s intervention that led to DLS method deciding the outcome with the defending champion well ahead.
Warriors posted what looked like a challenging total of 154-4, but the opposition chased with aggression before rain came to be given a revised total of 137 in 18 overs; they ended on 140-3 in 17.2 overs.
This match promises to be an intriguing one as well since the players have acclimated to conditions and have put first-match jitters behind.
Conditions promise to be humid and windy on a track that has favoured spin and also given reward for batting longer.
