Dear Editor,
I have no issues with the Governing party. I came here to state the facts, and then leave. Undoubtedly, what I pen here will ruffle some feathers, but it must be said. Let’s dive into it.
When the contract was awarded for this school, it was pegged at $364M. Another $127M was also expended for the said project to be expedited back in February 2024. These are some facts to keep in your mind as you read along. Back in 2024, Minister Parag assured Parliament that the project, at 65% completion at the time, according to her, would be completed by April 1, 2024. I’m not making this up. These are the facts. Just by this metric, school should’ve reopened for kids at this school, in September of that year. It didn’t happen. I’m not lying.
It was the Vice President who claimed back in October of 2024 that the school has been completed. Clearly ignorant of this particular issue. As it would later prove to be incorrect. The school was not completed at the time. These are some more facts. In the very same month, the company handling the contract stated that the school was 95% completed. Not only contradicting our beloved Vice President, but setting us up for a school that should have been opened at least, by January 2025. These are the facts.
In January of this year, Rawle Ferguson, known more to us as one of the principals of Hits and Jams, came to us and stated that the project was still at 95% owing delays to workers taking time off for Christmas, weather challenges and labor issues. These are the facts. Here again, I present another glaring fact. Do allow me to submit. In a matter of weeks, or months, or however long is the 5% more of the school takes to be completed, the President, and a few ministers will show up or post up, how much they are advancing our education sector and doing for Linden. They will speak of how much they do care. These are the facts.
The last set of facts I wish to present is that this project was awarded in November of 2021 and should have been completed by July 2023. Understanding that delays do occur when undertaking large projects, this project should’ve never gone past the year 2024 without completion. But if you think that’s shocking. I have spoken to teachers at the school and senior officials at the ministry’s level, they all said that the school isn’t completed as yet. 2025. A new academic year will go by and yet, scores of students will not go back to their school. These are facts. Pro-Government propagandists will convince you that the government isn’t at fault for the contractor’s inability and incompetence. But you decide. These are, as stated before, the facts!
