Kaieteur News – Bai, you ever hear anything so ridiculous? GECOM calling a meeting one hour before midnight on a Friday night. One hour! Not even pumpkin know if it want turn into carriage or if Cinderella slipper still fitting, and GECOM saying, “Let we meet.” Come on man! People done bathe, put on dem pyjamas, rub on Vicks, and pull the sheet up tight, and you expect them to crawl out the bed to go discuss election matters? Dem boys seh this is not a meeting—it is a midnight mass.
Old people does complain when dem children calling dem after 9 o’clock. “Why you disturbing me at this hour? You know I does go to bed early.” Now imagine telling them, “GECOM want you to come down fuh a meeting at 11.” Dem old people gan faint right away. Some of them might think it’s Judgment Day.
And tell me this: how you expect people to stay awake? That time of night, eyelid heavy like sack of rice. You gon hear snoring echoing through the headquarters louder than the Chairman calling order. Instead of minutes of the meeting, dem gon be taking minutes of who sleeping the loudest. Somebody might even dream they win elections before the thing done start.
Important business is best done in daylight, when the coffee still hot and the brain still sharp. Not when cock crowing already rehearsing for morning. But no, GECOM got style. Midnight meeting. Maybe they think democracy does shine brighter in darkness.
Dem boys seh if GECOM keep this up, next meeting gon be called at three o’clock in the morning, right when jumbie walking. Then everybody gon really see who got spirit for elections.
So hear nah, GECOM: save the country some embarrassment. Call yuh meeting in the day, when people bright and fresh. Nighttime is fuh sleep, not elections.
Dem boys seh, bedtime is bedtime—even for democracy.
