Kaieteur News – Former Public Service Minister and Member of Parliament, Tabitha Sarabo-Halley has been chosen as the prime ministerial candidate of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) Party.
Presidential candidate of the party, Azruddin Mohamed made the announcement at the conclusion of his speech at the party’s final rally held at the Marriott Beach front Saturday night.
“So, I have an announcement to make, next to me here we have a beautiful, young, energetic woman standing next to me and she would be your prime minister come the 2nd of September,” he announced.
Sarabo-Halley served in important positions in the APNU+AFC Coalition government and was elected to the National Assembly in the 12th Parliament.
Speaking to Kaieteur News on Nomination Day, Sarabo-Halley had asserted that she joined the WIN movement because the people had chosen Mohamed as their leader.
“It is surprising, I understand people saying it’s a surprise, but for me personally, I had to make a decision, the people made a choice, the people are choosing something different, the people have decided that what existed for the last 50 years is not working for them but they want to see something different, they want something new and they hoping with that new thing that they would be able to get what they truly deserve as Guyanese citizens,” Sarabo-Halley told Kaieteur News outside of Umana Yana.
The former parliamentarian said that her purpose and role as a servant leader is to ensure that the people get what they deserve and she will support initiatives that will achieve that goal.
Questioned about the difference among WIN and the other parties, Sarabo-Halley said “I am actually very excited about what is going to come and unfolding in the next week. We are getting through this process which was Nomination Day, once we done here, we are going to deal with manifesto and all of those policies. I am going to tell you; you would also be surprised in the coming weeks what we have in store for the Guyanese people.”
Asked to comment on the sanctions imposed on the billionaire businessman by the U.S. government, she said, Guyana is a sovereign country and the people have a right to decide who leads them.
Meanwhile, addressing a massive crowd on Saturday night, Mohamed promised his supporters to address the many issues affecting them and noted that they will be implementing polices and initiatives that would empower them.
He noted that far too long, persons have been facing the same problems for years, whether it be water, electricity, salaries, housing and healthcare. Notwithstanding, he assured that his party will fix those issues.
Before the announcement of Sarabo-Haley as the PM candidate, she told supporters that WIN has team of young people who are ready to do the work and to make sure their lives are better.
“The truth is clear, WIN represents the future, a future where every child matters, every citizen prospers and every dream finds its road. This is human development in action people, this is a promise of WIN and no matter the victimization and the intimidation we are ready for this fight, because we know we will win,” she expressed.
