Woman kills boat operator at East Bank Hotel

Kaieteur News – A boat operator identified as 40-year-old Ryan Fredericks of Mongrippa Hill, Bartica, died on Thursday after he was allegedly robbed and chopped by a woman at a hotel on the East Bank of Demerara.
Details from the police states that the incident occurred around 23:30hrs on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the Safari Inn Hotel located at Friendship, East Bank Demerara.
“Forty-year-old Fredericks was allegedly murdered by a female suspect (particulars unknown at this time), with whom he reportedly took and rented a room at the said hotel with,” the police said in a release Friday.
Police investigation revealed that the deceased had hired Navindra Kanhai, also a boat operator, of 2nd Ave, Bartica, to transport him to Parika, and they arrived at the said destination at around 17:45hrs. Fredericks and Kanhai met up with the suspect who was waiting in a black motorcar.
“Both Fredericks and Kanhai then joined the motorcar and sometime later visited the Safari Inn Hotel, where they booked two rooms. The deceased and the suspect went into a room together while Kanhai went into a room alone,” the police said.
Kanhai relayed that at some time between 23:00hrs and 23:30hrs, he was awakened by a knocking on his door and when he checked, the now dead man told him that he had been robbed and chopped.
“Fredericks at that time was bleeding from a wound to his left arm. The incident was reported to the police and the ambulance service was summoned. Checks were made for the female suspect and the motorcar, but they were not seen,” police said.
Emergency Medical Technicians responded and Fredericks was pronounced dead at the scene at about 00:55hrs. His body was examined by crime scene ranks and a deep wound was observed on the inner side of his upper left arm.
Frederick’s remains was escorted to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination. Navindra Kanhai was placed into custody, and is assisting with the investigation.
