Kaieteur Sports – The best of Women’s football in Guyana will take center stage again today, when the Women’s Division One League resumes.
A doubleheader is on the cards for the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) National Training Center (NTC) at Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD), with the action set to kick off at 18:00hrs.
The first match this evening will pit Den Amstel Football Club’s Women against Ann’s Grove United’s Women; both teams are yet to get any points on the board in this competition.
While Ann’s Grove is yet to hit the pitch in this competition, Den Amstel have already had their first taste of the League. Last Friday, Den Amstel was the victim of a 24-0 trashing at the hands of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) FC Women. However, there were some bright sparks in the team, especially goalkeeper Sabrina Peters, who in spite of the onslaught, managed to pull off over 10 saves. Peters will likely be a key factor this evening, as her teams looks to redeem themselves from last week’s drubbing.
On the other hand, the second encounter at 19:30hrs will see Western Tigers’ Women and Fruta Conquerors’ Women going head- to- head.
Fruta Conquerors had an excellent start to the competition, pulling off a 13-0 victory over Monedderlust FC on the opening night. For Fruta Conquerors, the likes of Dellanna Small, Captain Fayon Harry and newcomer to the club Rihanna DaCosta are all characters to look out for.
For Western Tigers, however, securing three points tonight after last weeks’ 0-2 blunder against Santos FC will be crucial. Strikers Rayanna Harris and Marissa Frank will therefore play an important role in tonight’s proceedings.
As such, two mouthwatering clashes are billed for the NTC this evening.
Coming up in the Women’s Division One League, Fruta Conquerors will take on Den Amstel while Guyana Police Force (GPF) FC battle Western Tigers on Friday, September 5.
Then on Friday, September 12, Ann’s Grove take on River’s View and Lake Mainstay Goldstars goes head-to-head with Monedderlust FC. Matches will begin at 18:00hrs and 19:30hrs respectively.
The teams in the Women’s Division One League are battling for a $1M grand prize. The second to fourth place finishers will pocket $500,000, $300,000 and $100,000 respectively. Following the League’s completion, a Cup tournament will follow with $300,000, $200,000, $100,000 and $50,000 on the line for the top four finishers.
