Kaieteur News – When yuh gat sweetman, yuh does sleep pon de couch. When yuh gat bad belly, yuh does sleep pon de toilet bowl. But when yuh try fuh thief election, yuh does sleep pon yuh own shadow— ‘cause nobody ain’t want sit down near yuh.
Dem boys seh when yuh gat power, yuh is like cook-up at wedding. Everybody want piece. People does swarm yuh like fly pon ripe mango. Big men, small men, business people, and even de same ones wah cuss yuh last week, does line up fuh kiss yuh hand. Yuh does feel like king.
But leh power slip out yuh hand, and watch wha happen. Same people wah was buzzing round yuh now can’t remember yuh number. Yuh invitation to big party does suddenly get “lost in de mail.”
Yuh does walk in and de crowd part like Red Sea. Yuh lef standing like wan jumbie in broad daylight—everybody watching, but nobody want come close.
Dem boys seh one man seh he had “plenty friends” when he in government. Soon as he lose power, he only friend was de driver; and even he jump ship fuh go wuk wid de new minister.
That is why power is a sweet poison. When yuh gat it, yuh feel invincible. When yuh lose it, yuh see who fake and who real. Most times, is just you and yuh lonely echo.
So remember: in power, yuh like honey. Outta power, yuh like sour lime. Everybody does spit yuh out.
