Kaieteur News – Prime Minister Retired Brigadier Mark Phillips on Sunday told his party supporters in Stewartville Region Three that they should not vote for the Leader of A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) Aubrey Norton.
Addressing the gathering he said “Do not vote for Norton. I left this for last, a lot of you don’t know Norton is a fired man. Norton was fired by Hugh Desmond Hoyte, when he was General Secretary of the PNC,” he explained.
Phillips went on the say that Norton was also fired by the University of Guyana and his most recent sacking was by Former President Retired Brigadier David Granger. “How can you vote for a fired man? How can you vote for a man who cannot hold down his job? How can you vote for a man who is not performing and has to be fired? Comrades, no sanctioned man, nor fired man Dr. Mohammed Irfaan Ali must be the next President of Guyana with your vote!”
He reminded those gathered that it was because of their votes five years ago in 2020, that not only their region but the entire country was able to benefit from five years of sustainable development. The PM also highlighted that everything that the residents of the region asked for was delivered including five secondary schools, water treatments plants and roads.
“The development took place all over Guyana. So everywhere that we went with our political rallies, political meetings, we had large numbers of people who came out, and they came out to tell us one thing, they love us, they’re thankful for us, and they want us to be in government for five more years,” he boasted.
He cautioned them to pay keen attention and listen carefully to what he has to say. Referring to the crowd as a tsunami Phillips urged that on September 1 they rise up before the crack of dawn and head to their respective polling places, placing their X next to the cup.
Voting begins at 6am and he is expecting that Region Three will “convert this tsunami into a super majority for the PPP. Comrades the only way we could deliver more to you is with your vote. Your vote is the most powerful weapon that you have, and we respect your vote, and that’s why we’re here asking you for your vote, your vote,” the PM urged.
He went on to say that it was the votes of the supporters and the government’s in implementing their manifesto plans, projects and programs to the people is what has resulted in the PPP being there on Sunday, thanking them and asking for five more year.
He noted that if granted it will be, “five more years of development, five more years of economic growth and economic empowerment, five more years of youth empowerment, five more years of empowerment of our women’s folk.” The Prime Minister then enquired of the crowd if they would like to try anyone else in government to which no was heard, he then reiterated “Do not vote for Norton.
