Kaieteur News – The voting process of the discipline services on Friday was smooth, according to Police Commissioner Clifton Hicken, and officials of the Guyana Election Commission (GECOM).
Members of the Guyana Defense Force (GDF), Guyana Police Force (GPF) and the Guyana Prison Service (GPS) cast their votes at various polling stations countrywide.
The polling station doors at officers’ mess annexe, police headquarters, Eve Leary, were open promptly at 6:00am, where, Commissioner Hicken’s voted followed by other officers. Crime Chief, Wendell Blanum was also at officers’ mess. He shared similar sentiments after casting his votes and observing the process.
“Based on what I would have observed just now, they are on time and everything is going smoothly,” Hickens said.
He added that he planned to visit as much locations as possible to observe the voting process, and make sure it was done smoothly. He said commanders and senior officers for outlying stations would do the same.
Deputy Chief Elections Officer (DCEO) Anneal Giddings confirmed that all polling stations were opened on time and the aircraft for the hinterland regions were on their way. He said everything was smooth and there was no mayor issue that hampered the opening of polling places.
Meanwhile, Crime Chief and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Wendell Blanum said “I am happy to report that the voting process was seamless and efficient. In other words, the process was simple, accurate and verifiable.” He commended GECOM and its staff for the work executed so far.
During the voting period, President Irfaan Ali, presidential candidate for the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), Aubrey Norton, along with presidential candidate of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) Azruddin Mohamed also visited the officers’ mess.
Kaieteur News reporters while at the polling station, observed the timely arrival of ballot boxes and police officers. There was also a smooth and orderly transition for the voters who stood in a single file line awaiting their turn. However, an officer whose foot was broken was advised that she had to vote at the officer mess but upon her arrival her name was not on the list, she was further advised to visit the Brickdam polling station.
