Kaieteur News – We gat some good doctors in dis country. This was always the case. Dem does tek an interest in dem patients and does go out of their way to be nice and friendly to them. Even in the mental asylum, dem doctors does try to be friendly to dem patients.
It reminds dem boys of de story dem hear when dem boys was lil boy: One doctor working at the madhouse decide fuh give he patients a nice lil outing. He claim dem lock up in the asylum all day and dem need a day out. He carry dem to a cricket match at Bourda. Dem days Bourda was de ground where international regional cricket used to be hosted in Guyana.
Weeks before de match, he drill dem good. He teach dem how fuh respond to commands.
De day of de game come. As de teams start to come out on de field, de doctor holler: “Stand up, Nuts!” And every last one jump to attention. De game ready fuh start, he shout: “Sit down, Nuts!” And dem drop back nice and quiet.
When de batsman hit a big six over mid-wicket, de doctor bawl: “Cheer, Nuts!” — and de whole stand clap, whistle and holla.
Later, when de umpire give de batsman out LBW and it look bad, de doctor seh: “Boo, Nuts!” And dem boo till de umpire ears ring.
Doctor feel proud how de training work, so he lef he assistant in charge and gone fuh buy ah Banks and ah cook-up.
When he come back, riot buss out in de stand. People pelting bottle, breaking up dem sears and some of dem jumping over de fence and climbing pon de sight screen.
He finally find he assistant hiding. He ask:
“Man, wah really happen hey?”
De assistant shake he head and seh:
“Boss, everything been going smooth… until one peanut vendor walk by and holler: ‘PEANUTS!’”
