Dear Editor,
The staging of the feature race of this year’s Guyana Cup 2025 was nothing short of a disgrace. The race was shockingly run off in pitch darkness. Horses, jockeys, and fans alike were exposed to grave dangers. That such a situation was allowed to occur at the nation’s premier horse racing meet is utterly unacceptable.
Equally troubling is the inexplicable decision to slate the feature event as the final race on the programme. The results of that race should be cancelled and the prize money withheld.
I call on the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport to immediately launch an inquiry into the circumstances that led to this fiasco. The public deserves answers and the stakeholders – owners, trainers and jockeys, sponsors and spectators – deserve to have their say and to be assured that measures will be put in place to ensure this shameful spectacle is never repeated.
Yours faithfully,
Rupnauth Hardyal
