Berbice Cricket Academy underway at Skeldon

Students take part in sessions at the Skeldon Community Centre Ground.

Kaieteur Sports – Berbice Cricket Academy opened Monday at Skeldon Community Centre, reporting a strong turnout and initial momentum. The programme attracted 35 students aged 10 to 19, with coaching staff drawn from Upper Corentyne that included Junior Blair, VP of the BCB and Floyd Benjamin Coach.

In his opening remarks, Vice President Mr. Blair of the Berbice Board outlined the academy’s aims to develop local talent and promote discipline and sportsmanship. Day one featured a combined lecture and practical session led by Head Coach Mr. Winston Smith. He was assisted by Coach Benjamin and supported by Coaches Latchman, Mr. Blair, and Mr. Mentis, whose collaborative approach guided participants through fundamental techniques and drills.

Attendees left with a clear understanding of the week’s schedule and expectations. The coaching sessions are scheduled to continue daily from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with ongoing skill development, fitness work, and game awareness integrated into the curriculum. Further updates will follow as the programme progresses. Officials emphasized safety and inclusion.
