Slingerz FC annihilates Mainstay as GDF hold Den Amstel to 4-2 defeat

Kaieteur Sports – Slingerz Football Club secured another three points in their 2025 Elite League campaign with a dominant victory over Mainstay Goldstar FC, while fourth-placed Guyana Defence Force (GDF) FC maintained their position with a hard-fought 4-2 win over Den Amstel FC.
The weekend’s double-header featured Den Amstel against a full-strength GDF at the Leonora Stadium, followed by Slingerz FC dismantling Mainstay Goldstar FC in a record-breaking 20-0 rout.
On Sunday evening, GDF looked well-drilled, with midfielder Chris Macey putting in a commanding performance. Operating deep, Macey anchored the team defensively and sparked their attacks with vision and composure. His sharp distribution set up the counterattack that led to Stephen McDonald’s opener in the 38th minute.
Den Amstel, however, showed resilience through their prolific strike duo of Delon Lanferman and Deon Alfred. Just before halftime, Lanferman buried a stunning equalizer in the 41st minute to level the score at 1-1 heading into the break.

But GDF returned with renewed energy. Trayon Bobb rose to the occasion, netting twice in quick succession in the 50th and 58th minutes to give his side a comfortable cushion. Despite Den Amstel’s late push, Macey’s tireless work in midfield ensured GDF remained in control. Their dominance was sealed when Abumchi Opara extended the lead in the 69th minute, before Alfred pulled one back late for Den Amstel, leaving GDF 4-2 winners.
The night then belonged to Slingerz FC, who treated fans to a goal-fest. Job Caesar opened the scoring in the 10th minute, followed quickly by a brace from Darron Niles (12’, 18’). Romaine Brackenridge added two more (21’, 38’), while Kemar Beckford capitalized with strikes in the 24th, 25th, and 43rd minutes.
Young Bryan Wharton delivered a hat-trick (29’, 36’, 51’), newly-signed Derrel Garcia netted twice before Jean-heim McFree stole the show, hammering in five goals (60’, 66’, 76’, 83’, 90’). Daniel Ross (74’) and Solomon Austin (77’) completed the 20-0 demolition.
With the emphatic win, Slingerz remain firmly on top with 34 points, while Guyana Police Force FC and Western Tigers FC trail in second and third, both with 27 points.
