Kaieteur News – A 25-year-old plumber was released on Wednesday on $35,000 bail after pleading not guilty to a robbery under arm offence.
The accused, Orion Edjhill of Lot 58 Back Street McDoom, East Bank Demerara (EBD), appeared before senior magistrate, Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that Edjhill, on August 10, 2025, at Longden Street Georgetown, while armed with a knife, robbed Reatesh Singh of one black coloured haversack valued $5000, one black coloured smartphone valued $24,000 and $1,800.
The prosecution objected to bail due to the serious nature and prevalence of the offence.
Edjhill told the court that on the day in question, he had too much to drink and fell asleep and awoke up in town near to a stand. He claimed that he had a small pair of scissors in his possession when he was approached and searched by the police, and was later taken into custody.
Edjhill’s father told the court that his son is a good man and is currently learning a trade.
When asked by the magistrate if he will return to court once bail is granted, Edjhill said ‘I will come back my worship, because I’m not guilty of any crime.”
Magistrate Azore granted Edjhill bail and the matter was adjourned for September 24, 2025.
