Two-thirds majority would mean democracy is alive
Dear Editor,
The call no political party must be allowed to gain a two-thirds majority in Parliament (KN August 9) rings hollow. Where were the calls when two-third majorities in Parliament were garnered not through fair, credible and transparent means? In fact, in one commentary it was stated the 1985 elections left the then opposition with nine seats (‘Issues in the News’ Aug 5).
It has to be asked why would it raise alarm bells if the electorate gives a party such a mandate? In such a case democracy is alive and well. Autocracy is dead.
