Kaieteur News – Linden mayor and candidate on the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) platform, Sharma Solomon has accused the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) of reckless overspending, while failing to deliver tangible benefits to the residents of Linden and the wider Guyanese populace.
Addressing a massive crowd at an APNU rally in Linden on Sunday, Solomon said the township has been sidelined despite the country’s increasing wealth from the oil and gas sector.
“Five years ago, we embarked on an economic revolution in Linden. We have never before seen the amount of wealth that we saw, we have never before been involved with the sort of development that we have, but today, Linden, five years on and each and every one of us can attest that we cannot see that transformational development in our lives in this town,” he told the crowd.
Solomon said that while the PPP government spends billions, that money benefits only a select few. “We have demonstrated by our ability to not only save responsibly to oil and gas management but we know before spending, you have to get savings and that is where this government continue to rob this nation in overspending which goes into the pockets of family, friends and favourites, just check the Mahdia primary school and you’ll see what I’m talking about,” Solomon stated.
He also criticised the PPP for what he described as a lack of vision and representation in Linden. “Not one idea comes from the PPP, not one aesthetical reflection in this town gives the PPP any self-respect of doing anything to you Linden. You cannot afford to take that chance for another chance, we will vote them out,” Solomon declared.
He said the PPP has failed to produce any candidates from the region to represent Linden’s interests, but assured the APNU has more than enough candidates to represent the town, stating, “We see you Linden, you are the heart of Guyana but that couldn’t be realised under the PPP government, but it will be realised under APNU government because in the APNU they see value in Linden to even identify right in your midst people to represent your redress. Ask the PPP if they got anybody on their list to represent you”.
He stressed that an APNU-led government would invest in people, particularly the small man, while emphasising that the PPP has brought nothing but death to the region. “We are the epitome of understanding investments in the small man being the real man. We are the epitome of understanding the value of investment in you. They have brought you nothing Linden, but what they have given to you Linden is death and destruction. PPP believes that the Linden deserve death and destruction,” Solomon declared referring to several men who were shot dead by members of the Guyana Police Force, this year.
Solomon concluded his address with a strong commitment to justice, declaring that under an APNU government, those responsible for the killing of protestors in Linden would be held accountable.
