Dear Editor,
On behalf of the residents and myself of drainage pump access road Area “J” Foulis (North) on the East Coast of Demerara we write to bring to the council attention a matter that requires immediate attention.
The drainage pump access road in our community is in a very deplorable condition and we are very concerned about the safety of drivers, cyclists and pedestrians who use the road on a daily basis. The road is also used by vehicles and workers who service the drainage pump. It is nearly impossible to drive or walk without the increased risk of falls, self-injury or vehicular damage by both the pump employees and us the residents. Potholes, cracks and uneven pavement have become a common sight and the situation is getting worse daily.
In addition, the value of the homes in the area will be affected and it is an inconvenience to navigate the rough terrain daily. The current state of the road is also affecting emergency vehicles from getting to residents in a timely manner. This is a serious concern and as such we are requesting that the Council assistance in repairing the road in our community.
Finally, the plants and bushes on both sides of the road have grown excessively causing inconvenience and safety concerns for residents.
The overgrowth is: Obstructing pedestrian pathways and visibility; creating hiding spots for potential criminals; damaging nearby infrastructure (e.g. walls, drains); attracting mosquitos and other disease- carrying insects.
Due to this situation, we are kindly asking the Council to look into our concerns at their next Statuary meeting scheduled for 1:30 pm on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 with a view to bring relief to us.
Your support in this regard is greatly appreciated.
Thank you and best regards,
Yours faithfully,
Rayvonne P, Bourne
