Kaieteur News- Dem boys hearing that PPP faithful in Queens and Toronto feeling like outside child at a family reunion. Election fever in Guyana hot-hot, but up north, is like de dance done before dem even get invite. All now so, dem deh waiting for de call: “Comrade, we coming fuh de big fund-raising drive.” But up to now? Silence. Not even a lil’ flyer on WhatsApp.
In de old days, you coulda bet that PPP woulda mek a grand entrance in New York and Canada, collect $1,500 a plate for cook-up and channa, and walk out wid envelopes so fat dem couldn’t fold. But times change. De party war chest so overflowing from local sources, it brimming like a trench in rainy season. Dem don’t need no fried rice from Queens or chicken curry and puri from Toronto. Money flowing in right here in Guyana like oil out de FPSO.
Dem boys seh some diaspora faithful still ironing dem red shirts, practicing dem “long time no see, comrade!” speeches, and even checking dem cheque books—just in case. Hope springs eternal. Dem seh before month end, leaders might still turn up wid hat in hand, telling dem how “every little bit helps.” But dem boys know better—when you swimming in oil, you ain’t coming to beg fuh pennies.
Truth is, PPP never really needed dem diaspora dollars. Back then, it was just a nice excuse fuh a foreign vacation and some photo-ops. The real cash cow was always here—right under dem noses in Guyana.
So to all a you in Queens and Toronto feeling left out—relax. Enjoy yuh cold weather and yuh West Indian store doubles. This election, PPP don’t need yuh $1,500 per plate dinner yuh white envelopes. But hey—keep dem ready. Politics got a funny way of making rich people poor and poor people important again.
