Kaieteur News – Forty-seven-year-old Otis Pearson also known as ‘Otisha’ was released on bail on Friday for abusive and threatening language.
Pearson, of Lot 17 Station Street, Kitty, Georgetown, appeared before acting Chief Magistrate, Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer to the two charges.
The accused pleaded guilty with explanation to the abusive language charge and not guilty to threatening language, which were both hurled at Anita Ramdeo on July 24, 2025 in Kitty.
Ramdeo, who was also charged with abusive language, did not appear in court, forcing the magistrate to issue an arrest warrant.
Pearson told the court that he and Ramdeo were close friends until she found out her partner was interested in him, souring the friendship.
“We were sharing the same man…. There’s always been back and forth between us, she pass and throw hints, and I does throw back,” Pearson said.
He went on to share that “Madam, I will be very honest, I did curse her back because us gay persons, if you curse us, we will curse you back. She got mad because I had a relationship with her man… she curse me and tell me my…. was big and I curse her back.”
The court also heard that Ramdeo regularly keeps her school-aged child at home to take care of her younger siblings. Pearson noted that he had made several reports to the police and Child Protection Agency over the course of several months. His efforts resulted in the child being removed from the home at one point, though she was later returned since no criminal offense was committed by the parent.
The prosecution said on the day in question, the defendant visited Ramdeo’s home to speak with her child. However, Ramdeo reportedly told her child “not to speak to anyone”, which then ignited an argument between the defendant and the victim, causing Pearson to use profane and offensive language, including expletives.
The prosecution had no objection to the threatening language charge. Magistrate McGusty granted Pearson bail in the sum of $10,000 on the threatening language charge and he was required to sign a peace bond for the abusive language.
The matters were adjourned for August 22, 2025.
