Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – We, “obstructionist” & other members of Civic Society, blithely & mostly silently watch the Gas to Energy and/ or Gas to Power contract costs continue to exponentialize. There is the current addition of “and the building of medium voltage circuits to the tune of US$422 million”. This is in addition to all other costs of approximately US$2B. The publicly announced contracts in “the building out” phase are;
It is currently unclear whether these contracts are also delayed, in dispute resolution and/or arbitration, and/or concluded? Were new contracts awarded to these two companies this year? https://demerarawaves.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/30/dominican-republic-based-company-to-supervise-major-gpl-works-no-job-losses-officials/
Congrats to the Honorable Minister for this brilliant discovery & for letting us know also,
Mr Indar said Guyana does not have the skills to supervise such a massive project that would see the installation of more than 300 kilometres of 230 kV and 69 kV transmission lines, construction of five new substations, the upgrade of another and the building of medium voltage circuits to the tune of US$422 million.
“You can’t get these skills locally. When you have this kind of level of investment in terms of the quality assurance when you’re building out, you want to ensure that it is done properly,” he said.
“Contracts for those works were awarded earlier this year to Power China and the Indian firm, Kalpataru.”
Was this a 2025 discovery or was it merely tucked away in the elusive and/or perhaps illusory feasibility studies for the GtE project or something else or inter alia?
Kind regards,
Elizabeth Deane-Hughes &
Other members of Civic Society.
