$51M nursery school commissioned at Tuschen

Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand alongside educational and regional officials commissioning the Early Learners Nursery at Tuschen on Wednesday.

Kaieteur News – Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand on Wednesday commissioned the new $51 million Early Learners Nursery at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, Region Three.

According to information provided by the ministry, the newly established facility underscores the government’s commitment to providing quality early childhood education to every child.

The ministry noted that currently the enrollment stands at 90 learners and there are five teachers on staff, four of whom are trained, with the fifth presently undergoing training. “This staffing composition ensures that learners benefit from structured, nurturing, and professional care during their foundational years,” the ministry said.

The nursery school is one of 54 brand new nursery schools constructed across Guyana over the last four and a half years. “In addition to new construction, the Government has also reconstructed 13 existing nursery schools and extended 39 others during the same period. The construction of 54 nursery schools in just four years is unprecedented and reflects a deliberate and strategic approach to strengthening Guyana’s education system, particularly at the nursery level,” the Education Ministry disclosed.

The new block which was commissioned at the Yarrowkabra Nursery School on Thursday.

Further, the ministry stated that with each new or improved school, they move closer to its goal of ensuring that every child has access to safe, modern, and inclusive learning spaces from the earliest stages of their educational journey.

Meanwhile, on Thursday the minister commissioned the newly completed nursery school block at Yarrowkabra Nursery School.

In a statement, the Education ministry informed that the school currently accommodates 90 nursery learners, a number that is expected to grow in the upcoming school term. The school is also staffed by nine teachers, eight of whom are trained, with one currently undergoing training.

“This commissioning is part of a broader, nationwide effort to expand and improve nursery education infrastructure. Over the last four and a half years, the Government of Guyana has constructed 54 brand new nursery schools across the country. In addition to these new builds, 13 existing nursery schools have been reconstructed and 39 extended, with Yarrowkabra Nursery being among the extended facilities,” the ministry reported.

Additionally, the ministry related that these initiatives underscores the Ministry of Education’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of location, has access to safe, child-friendly, and conducive learning environments from the earliest years.
