Govt. launches app to enhance emergency reporting, response

Kaieteur News – The Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday officially launched a new mobile application, Secure Eye, during the National Road Safety Forum 2025 held at the Guyana Police Force Officers’ Mess Annexe, Eve Leary, Georgetown.
The app is designed to allow citizens to report incidents they witness and record, helping to improve response times and support enforcement efforts across various emergency sectors.

The announcement was made by Priya Seepaul, Systems Analyst at the ministry, who explained that the goal of Secure Eye is to encourage the public to go beyond simply sharing videos of incidents on social media. Instead, the app gives users the option to submit footage directly to the Ministry, enabling relevant divisions and police stations to respond more quickly and effectively.
“This application is intended to mitigate some of the challenges we face with road safety. Most of the times when you see an accident, everybody is ready to take out their phones and take pictures and record, but what do you do with that video or clip? You post it on your social media and on your status. What if you can be more than just a social media post. You can make it a change with that video and help the situation, “Seepaul noted.
Seepaul emphasised that the app addresses one of the Ministry’s biggest challenges, timely reporting of incidents. “Every year too many lives are lost on the road. Many of these lives can be saved, not by luck, but by a faster response system. Sometimes people won’t know who to call or can’t share the exact location of where an incident is happened. Every time of a delay means a greater risk. So that’s where Secure Eye comes in,” she said.
The initiative was first introduced two years ago by Minister of Home Affairs, Robeson Benn. The Secure Eye app allows users to report a wide range of incidents, including emergencies, crimes, fires, medical situations, and traffic accidents. The app also allows users to upload recorded videos or capture footage directly through the app. Additionally, users can share their live location, making it easier for emergency services to respond swiftly and accurately.
