Cashier on $600k bail for embezzlement
Kaieteur News – A 32-year-old cashier from Essequibo was on Friday placed on $600,000 bail after pleading not guilty to three counts of embezzlement charges.
Bonita Valenzuela appeared virtually before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that Valenzuela on March 18, 2025, at Supenaam Waterfront, Essequibo Coast, while being an employee for Devin Warner at a Superbet Outlet, embezzled $1,364,000.
It was also alleged that on the same day at the said address she also embezzled $700,000 and $385,000. The accused, through her lawyer, told the court that Valenzuela and Warner had an argument. She noted too that her client is pregnant.
The young woman was granted $200,000 station bail. The matter was adjourned to August 22, 2025.
