Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – I want to thank Kaieteur News in advance for publishing my view as we are witnessing what is happening in this beloved country. After looking at what was happening in Guyana over the years, I have concluded that Guyana cannot be helped unless Guyanese are willing to employ meaningful strategies to have some form of control as to how Guyana should go forward. Notice I did not say anything about voting out anyone. Guyana was like this since before independence, when Dr. Jagan went to the White House and told President Kennedy that he is a communist, the British uses strategies to keep Guyana out of communism. Burnham was no better for Guyana. All of Guyana existence as an independent country was ruled by people of parasitic nature, except Dr. Jagan, in my opinion. Guyana and Singapore have their independence from Great Britain around the same time and look where Singapore is today. At this moment it is not about who is good and who is bad, it’s about implementing strategies to get things done and have some form of positive control. Experience will tell you that Guyana cannot be ruled by a single political party in power with the two major parties politically galvanize on the ground of race. Winner takes all invites chaos and corruption in Guyana unique situation.
This brings me to what is happening presently in Guyana. I am not going to spell out the problems. People should take note what Mr. Glen Lall is saying and be convinced that, as much as you are seeing development, behind the scene Guyana is going in a deep hole of no return with this government in charge, both the ruling party and the do-nothing opposition. All the islands in the Caribbean have one or two industries which their economy depends upon. Guyana has gold, diamond, bauxite, manganese, timber, agriculture and now to tap it off, the richest oil field in the world producing over a million barrel of oil per day. Why are we still borrowing money and why is our currency still averaging exchange G$216.00 to US$1.00 for the past twenty-five years. One may ask, if it has something to do with the international banking system, because I notice as soon as oil started to flow, an IMF team was in Guyana having discussion. I may be wrong, but things are not going right for Guyana and the future will be determined by the people, if they have the will. The only way forward is a minority government where everybody has real authority to make decisions to benefit the country.
This is the only strategy going forward. Politicians will tell you that you must vote but are not telling you what direction to take with that vote. I, as a civilian, am telling you to vote for a minority government, let me explain. To go forward we need to acknowledge that the PPP, APNU and the AFC all having their old stigma that can jeopardise trust for people, but it is necessary to help the opposition party individually. Remember I said not to look for good and bad, everybody has the same nature bestowed upon them. Look for strategy that will work. The country must not have a coalition government of APNU and the AFC to represent the people. Coalition of APNU/AFC will destroy any chance to reduce the PPP grip on power because the PPP will acquire the required seats to form a government, and a coalition will acquire seats as one coalition party, not able to garner any authority how the country is governed.
In other words, people who are disgusted of the PPP will not leave the PPP because of fear of a coalition winning the required seats to form government. No departed PPP voter can trust the APNU. You need a split of APNU/AFC and allow four or more parties to contest. This is where the WIN party will play the biggest positive role in Guyana politics. Voters will leave both the PPP and APNU to give the smaller party to be in Government. I am not saying the WIN party will win the presidency but all the small party that have seats will be in government as government leaders and not as opposition. The way forward is, those voters who usually vote for PPP and who are dissatisfied by the PPP way of running the country must give their vote to the WIN or AFC parties individually. WIN and AFC can make some arrangements with the little party. Voters of APNU must also do the same for it to work. This will help the opposition to gain seats and reduce the PPP and APNU by a few seats, preventing the PPP from forming government alone. In this way, President Ali can still be the president if the PPP has the most seats but not enough to form the government. The party with the most seats will have to invite the lesser party to form the government, and this is how all the party will have authority in government. The President will have to seek permission from the two or three opposition parties before carrying out any major decision to favour of all the people and country. The opposition will also have to cooperate with the President to get things done. The WIN and AFC party will also be able to get ministerial positions. It is also important not to stay home and waste your vote. When you don’t vote, you allow others to make decisions for you. This is how each party will be responsible to the people and cannot blame anyone but themselves if anything goes wrong.
Having a minority government will allow each political party to appoint several commissions that include professionals, religious leaders and civil society to construct agreements and contracts. At the end of every quarter, the commission with everyone present can call the press and make a presentation. Transparency and inflated contracts are big problems and the best way forward for greater transparency is a minority government. People of Guyana, DON’T LET THE CASH GRANT COVER YOUR EYES from seeing the light. Remember America don’t want more of us, as such you have to protect Guyana, your own.
Regards,
David Singh
