Kaieteur News – Dem boys seh dis country gat a serious grammar problem. De other day, a big man talk about ‘minors’. But when dem check de story, he really mean ‘minions’. And dis same man been talking about who smart and who dunce.
Well leh we tell yuh minions is…well, yuh know, de people who does jump when de boss man blink. Minors is children, persons below the age of adulthood.
Is a big mix-up, but dem boys seh it show how language in Guyana does tek a good lash like a market thief. One minute yuh calling political underlings “minors.” And de next minute yuh calling school children “minions.”
Yuh see, minors does need protection, education, and a good breakfast in de morning. Minions does need one boss, one order, and sometimes one lil brown envelope fuh encouragement. Is two different things!
Dem boys seh when yuh mix up minors wid minions, yuh either corrupting de youth or treating grown people like dey still sucking bottle. Some ah dem minions walking round wid suit and tie, but can’t say boo unless de big man whisper “moo.” Is like cow language in high office.
But dem boys seh don’t blame de man too much. In Guyana is hard fuh know who is who. De minor acting like minion, de minion pretending to be major, and everybody waiting fuh de good life.
So next time yuh hear a politician seh he love de minions or he done wid de minors—ask which one he really mean. Because if is de wrong set, shame might meet he faster than a flu.
And remember: minors need a future; minions need a spine. Right now, both seem short.
Talk half, leff half.
