Kaieteur News – A 32-year-old Corentyne man who was on the run for allegedly causing death by dangerous driving back in March of this year was arrested on Tuesday.
According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force, ranks, acting on information, arrested Avinash Naidoo at Line Path, Corentyne Berbice, between 18:00hrs and 18:30hrs.
Naidoo, at the time of the accident, was the driver of a white fielder wagon bearing registration number HC 8905.
Nine-month-old Eli Surujnarine died while on her way to receive medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital, and her 19-year-old mother Sarita Bedessie also known as Kavita Bedsan, died four days after the accident, leaving 17-year-old Tushan Surujnarine the father and reputed husband injured.
On March 2, 2025, around 18:30hrs, the family was on an electric cycle when they were hit by Naidoo along the Line Path Public Road.
Investigations had revealed that the electric cycle was proceeding north along the western side of Line Path Road when the wagon hit the rear of the electric cycle.
The parents and baby were injured when they fell onto the roadway. They were picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital where they were treated and referred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
They were treated at the New Amsterdam Hospital, but were referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for additional treatment.
