Kitty rally shows PPP’s diversity

Kaieteur News – The recent PPP/C rally in Kitty has demonstrated without any shadow of doubt that the PPP is the largest and most ethnically diverse political party in Guyana.
From its very formation in January 1950, the PPP has embraced a policy of putting the interests of the Guyanese people ahead of partisan interests. This is why it has been successful in attracting people in its ranks from all ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
It is not surprising therefore that the PPP has dominated the political landscape for over seven decades. During that period, the PPP was able to score for the Guyanese people significant economic and social gains especially in areas such as education, health, housing and the supply of potable water. Substantial gains were also made at the constitutional level including the right to vote and the introduction of the ministerial system of governance.
Despite being cheated out of office for twenty-eight years by the undemocratic PNC regime, the PPP on its return to power on October 5, 1992 managed to change the economic trajectory of the country to a point where Guyana is now regarded as one of the fastest growing economy in the world. Guyana is no longer a ‘pariah’ nation as was the case under the PNC regime. The country is experiencing a massive transformation in critical areas such as infrastructural and human resources development, thanks to visionary leadership by the PPP/C administration.
As Guyanese head to the polls on September 1, 2025 Guyanese will overwhelmingly vote for continuity under the leadership of President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali and his team. The PPP must be commended for having put together a slate of candidates that is representative of the Guyanese society in terms of ethnicity, gender and youth. This is quite unlike the APNU and the other parties some of whom were severely challenged to put together their candidate lists to compete in the elections both at the regional and the national levels.
The choice before the Guyanese electorate has never been clearer. It is one of continued progress and prosperity under the PPP/C administration or a return to the days of authoritarian rule when the country degenerated to the poorest country in the western hemisphere.
