Dear Editor,
Kaieteur News – I disagreed with an additional charge on my monthly bill, which was claimed to be not registered about a year ago. This is apparently a political campaign to raise extra funds on the consumers’ backs for the upcoming election. So, I sent an email to the authority in charge which refused to accept and caused me to take it personally to them.
After fussing a lot, and delaying with extra investigation on the matter, they finally sent me a letter of denial. I had elaborated in my letter some of the consumer rights breach and even proposed to pay by installments. All in vain. I applied for a subsidy as a pensioner which also has not been granted so far. I am unable to pay the charge although at a low value. However, giant companies do not look down on poor unemployed people and by denial they are clearly saying to like it or lump it.
I visited the legal clinic looking for a so-called public lawyer to make my voice heard by someone. Unfortunately, there is also a charge for the use of these professionals who are paid by the state to listen to civilian cases. So, who and where should I look out for basic representation?
A light at the end of the tunnel appears with Kaieteur News. Since they are also on the giant platform, maybe some match can occur. At least their policy takes much more care of the poor than GPL. I went to the office where I was not permitted to engage with anyone, save the providing on this public email as an only string of contact. If someone will take time to give heed can be another story. However, it is my last hope at the end of the line. Hoping to get some feedback from you soon for further clarifications.
Best regards,
Colin Stephenson
