Kaieteur Sports – Day three of the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ West Demerara edition delivered a night packed with drama, goals, and controversy as eight intense matchups kept fans on the edge of their seats.
Unstoppable Force set the tone for the evening with a narrow 1-0 victory over Game Changers FC, thanks to a sixth-minute strike from Calvin Durga. The tight encounter saw both teams battle defensively, but Durga’s early goal proved decisive.
In the second match, Westside Ballers followed a similar script with Darrell Abrams finding the back of the net in just the second minute against Rising Stars. That early lead held firm as the Ballers secured a 1-0 win.
Match three delivered a tense stalemate between Gunners and Epic Touch Family. Both teams displayed solid defensive organization, resulting in a goalless draw.
Wash Bay Boys then turned up the excitement with a 2-0 win over Cayenne Massive, capped off by a spectacular Golden Goal in the 27th minute from Dehsaun Ellis. His finish ensured Wash Bay’s advancement to the next round.
Team Family eked out a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Agricola, with Martin King confidently converting a 10th-minute penalty to seal the result.
The highlight of the night came in a thrilling goal-fest as Showstoppers outclassed Murphy Street Stars 6-3. Marvin Josiah was instrumental in the victory, netting twice in the fifth and 10th minutes. Stephen Jupiter extended the lead with a Golden Goal in the 27th minute, followed closely by another Golden Goal from Darren Benjamin. Despite commendable efforts from Kenton Boyce and Dontee McAulay for Murphy Street Stars, the damage was already done.
Elsewhere, Ballerz Empire advanced via walkover after Sunshine Ballers failed to field a team. Jetty Ballers and Pouderoyen Brothers played out a tactical 0-0 draw in the evening’s final match.
However, controversy marred the evening as Sunshine Ballers’ players and manager were hit with a three-year ban from all future Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ tournaments due to egregious misconduct. The tournament organizers confirmed the sanctions, underlining their commitment to maintaining discipline and sportsmanship.
