Farmer found floating in Barima River
Kaieteur News – A farmer from Kanaballi creek was found floating in the Barima River.
Dead is Litton Daniel called ‘Cova,’ of Kanaballi creek, Santa Cruz, Barima River North West District.
It was reported that the incident occurred between July 8 and 9, 2025.
According to police, village Toshao, Oswald Bresceino said Daniel was at his home asking for a shaving set and mentioned that he was going to a birthday party in the village.
The deceased left Bresceino’s home and was last seen on July 8, paddling in a canoe heading to the party.
“On the following day, 09-07-2025, the Toshoa receive information that the deceased was missing and his boat was discovered floating in the Barima River,” police said.
A resident of the village, Alwin Thorne told police that he was at his sister’s shop when he saw an object floating down the river heading in the northern direction and as it drew closer, he observed it to be Daniel.
The police were alerted and the body was examined upon their arrival. No marks of violence were seen on the exposed part of the body. However, due to the decomposed state of the body, it was buried three feet at Santa Cruz burial ground with intent of exhumation.
The grave was photographed and marked while several persons were questioned and statements taken.
