…as sixth Annual ExxonMobil Boys’ and Girls’ U14 Football Championship continues

Kaieteur Sports – With the preliminaries now concluded, the school’s most anticipated Under-14 football tournament, the ExxonMobil Schools Boys’ and Girls’ Football Championship enters its Round-of-16 phase today at the Ministry of Education ground, marking the start of the ultimate knockout stage in the 2025 edition.

Over three action-packed rounds, fans witnessed thrilling performances and attacking football. Ten hat-tricks, 36 braces, and several goal hauls highlighted the attacking flair on display, making this year’s tournament one of the most exciting yet.

In the Girls’ Division, Waramuri’s Zabita Harris and Marian Academy’s Haley Haberkorn lead the Golden Boot race with five goals each. In the Boys’ Division, Robinho Abrams and Daren Thomas top the charts with six and five goals, respectively.

Waramuri Secondary, Chase’s Academic Foundation, Marian Academy, and Bartica Secondary remain unbeaten in the Girls’ Division. Waramuri leads the goal difference tally with +21, followed by Bartica (+18) and Marian (+16), showcasing their dominance so far.

Waramuri Secondary enters round-of-16 phase undefeated, thanks to standout performances from Zabita Harris across the three previous rounds.

In the Boys’ Division, a larger and equally competitive field has seen Waramuri Secondary, West Demerara Secondary, Chase’s Academic Foundation, Cotton Field Secondary, Three Mile Secondary, and St. John’s College maintain perfect records. Chase and St. John’s look especially threatening with high goal differences, positioning them as title contenders.

As the Petra Organisation narrows the field to the final eight in both divisions today, anticipation is high.

The Round-of-16 stage of the tournament kicks off with the Girls’ action. The opening clash sees Abram Zuil Secondary take on St. Joseph High at 12:30 p.m., marking the first of eight matchups in this phase. Next up, Good Hope Secondary will challenge the unbeaten Bartica Secondary in match #80, while Marian Academy aims to extend their winning streak when they face West Demerara Secondary. New Central High will go up against Bush Lot Secondary, and Vryman Erven Secondary will battle Vreed-en-Hoop Secondary for a coveted quarterfinal spot.

Later in the day, Westminster Secondary squares off with East Ruimveldt Secondary in match #88. Chase Academic Foundation will look to secure their quarterfinal berth against Annandale Secondary, and in the final clash of the day, Waramuri Secondary takes on Dolphin Secondary in a showdown for the last spot in the next round.

Meanwhile, another set of eight Round-of-16 clashes will unfold today in the Boys’ division, beginning with Charity Secondary facing off against Bygeval Secondary.

Also on the schedule, Three Mile Secondary takes on New Amsterdam Secondary, while West Demerara Secondary goes head-to-head with East Ruimveldt Secondary. Cotton Field Secondary will meet Dolphin Secondary, and St. John’s College battles Belladrum Secondary for a spot in the next round.

The experienced West Ruimveldt side will look to secure spot #6 as they take on Annandale Secondary. Defending champions Chase Academic Foundation must overcome Charlestown Secondary to keep their title hopes alive, while St. Joseph High will clash with a strong Waramuri Secondary team in the final match of the round, with the last quarterfinal spot on the line.

Now in its sixth year, the Petra Organisation’s U14 Football Championship continues to grow in stature. The tournament is sponsored by ExxonMobil with support from SkyTec, MVP Sports, Stena Drilling, I-Cee Soft Drink, and Demerara Mutual. It is also endorsed by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.

Teams progressing to the quarterfinals will be outfitted in ExxonMobil-branded uniforms.

The stage is set, the teams are ready, and fans can expect a thrilling knockout round as the journey to crown this year’s champions continues.
