Kaieteur News – A 26-year-old welder was on Friday remanded for an attempt to commit murder charge.
The accused, Alvin Grannum of Lot 175 Dasilva Street, Kitty, Georgetown, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before acting Chief Magistrate, Faith McGusty who read the charge.
Grannum was not required to plead to the indictable charge which alleged that on July 1, 2025 on Republic Street, Kitty, Georgetown, he wounded Dennis Narine with intent to murder him.
The court heard that on the day in question, Grannum and Narine were involved in a scuffle when Grannum, who was armed with a pair of scissors, stabbed Narine several times in his chest.
The court heard that the accused admitted to the offence during a video and audio interview. Narine is hospitalised in the male surgical ward in a critical condition.
Magistrate McGusty denied Grannum bail due to the serious nature of the offence and the current state of the victim.
The matter was adjourned to August 8, 2025.
