Vendor on $150,000 bail for discharging firearm

Accused Ishmel Lewis at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Friday

Kaieteur News – A 29-year-old vendor was on Friday released on $150,000 bail for discharging a loaded firearm with intent.

Ishmel Lewis of Lot 194 Grove Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate, Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Lewis was not required to plead to the indictable charge which alleged that on April 21, 2025 at Plum Park South, Sophia, Georgetown, he discharged a loaded firearm with intent to harm or disfigure Carlton Williams.

Lewis was legally represented by attorney Stacy Goodings who pleaded his case. Goodings said her client has denied the allegation and is not a flight risk.

The prosecution stated that the defendant would frequently visit the virtual complainant’s resident and is concerned for his safety.

Magistrate McGusty released Lewis on bail and told him to have no contact with Williams.

The matter was adjourned to August 8, 2025.
