…says confident in GECOM’s ability to deliver free, fair and credible elections

Kaieteur News – With the 2025 general and regional elections slated to be held in less than two months, President Irfaan Ali signed proclamations to dissolve the 12^th Parliament of Guyana and the Regional Democratic Councils (RDC) on Thursday.

The signing of the proclamations was done in accordance with the Constitution of Guyana and paves the way for the elections to be held on September 1.

“Free and fair elections are the lifeblood of a democratic state. The upcoming elections represent our country’s commitment to renewing the democratic covenant between its citizens and government,” President Ali said via his Facebook page.

The head of state said that elections provide an opportunity for citizens to exercise their democratic right to elect their leaders. “I urge all eligible Guyanese to participate in the upcoming elections, and in so doing, be part of this critical decision-making process of the state,” he added.

Ali, the presidential candidate for the People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C), said that he remains confident in the Guyana Elections Commission’s (GECOM) ability to hold free, fair and credible elections.

“I all urge all Guyanese to support the work of GECOM,” he added.
