Kaieteur News- One of the drivers involved in Tuesday morning’s three-way crash along the Rupert Craig Highway has succumbed to his injuries.
Dead is father of two, Narayan Sikandar, also known as Leon Sikandar. His sister broke the devastating news via a Facebook post.
“And just like that my brother is gone”, before adding that he was heading to work “healthy and fine.”
“Then out of nowhere someone who clearly doesn’t care about his life ended my brother’s (life)”, she continued.
Sikandar was driving an Altezza motor car, when the driver of another car lost control and flew over a median before crashing into him. The impact pushed Sikandar’s car into another car behind, injuring that driver and two male passengers.
Police identified the driver who lost control of his vehicle as Kamel Daniels.
Police reports are that Daniels was driving his car PAK 9877 east along the northern drive lane of the highway. He was allegedly speeding when he lost control in the vicinity of the UG Access Road.
“…The vehicle swerved south into and over the concrete median which separates the northern and southern carriageways,” police said, adding that the front of his car collided with the right portion of Sikandar’s car which was proceeding west.
The impact then pushed Sikandar’s car into a hire car, driven by 63-year-old Lewis who was also proceeding west.
“As a result of the three-vehicle collision, the vehicles were damaged extensively, and the drivers of all three vehicles, along with the two occupants, received injuries on their bodies,” police detailed.
All of them were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) by public-spirited citizens.
A cellphone recorded video of the crash painted an almost gruesome picture. The vehicles were mangled and all of the occupants appeared unconscious. Sikandar was seen lying in his car while other victims were seen lying on the roadway.
After receiving the news and hearing about the video, Sikandar’s sister made a Facebook post stating that she was hoping for the best and that her prayers were with the medical team who was at the time battling to save Sikandar’s life.
