Kaieteur Sports – Backed by the full support of the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the long-awaited Deputy Mayor’s Cup, a high-octane seven-a-side Inter-Ward/Village straight knockout football championship is set to take center stage from July 5–12 at the Police Sports Club Ground in Eve Leary, Georgetown.
The tournament will feature 32 of the country’s top village teams, battling it out across four electrifying nights for a share of over one million dollars in cash prizes. In addition to the lucrative rewards, the GPF has donated several individual prizes, including the Most Valuable Player (MVP) trophy, courtesy of Commissioner of Police (COP) Clifton Hicken.
The tournament’s top goal scorer will walk away with the Deputy Commissioner of Police Ravindradath Budram Trophy. A special accolade will also be awarded to the Most Disciplined Team, who will receive the Deputy COP Errol Watts Trophy. Meanwhile, the championship-winning team will take home $500,000 and a massive hamper from Ricks and Sari Enterprise. The runner-up will receive $300,000, third place $200,000, and fourth place $100,000.
The tournament kicks off this Saturday and Sunday (July 5 and 6) with 16 exciting matchups. Action resumes on Wednesday, with the final 16 teams facing off ahead of the grand finale on July 12.
Among the teams competing in this year’s Deputy Mayor’s Cup are: Espanyol, Uprising, Pele, Gladiators, Pouderoyen, Herstelling, Mocha, Z-Tec Family, Uitvlugt, Swan FC, Den Amstel, Albouystown, Timehri, Festival City, Timehri Panthers, North Ruimveldt, Stabroek Ballers, Liliendaal, Road Warriors, Sophia, Taliban, Team Police, Campbellville, Bent Street ‘A’ and ‘B’, Back Circle ‘A’ and ‘B’, Eagles, Stewartville, and Belle West Stars.
Fans can expect an epic showcase, as players proudly represent their villages in fast-paced 30-minute matches. The Police Force is prepared, the players are eager, and the stage is set for Guyana’s most lucrative inter-ward football championship, providing a thrilling football spectacle for all.

The Eve Leary ground will come alive this Sunday and Sunday as the ultimate Seven-a-side Football gets underway.
The tournament has also received overwhelming community support, with strong endorsements from Deputy Mayor of Georgetown Denise Miller and the Guyana Police Force. Kickoff time is 6:00 PM, with eight thrilling matches scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday.
