Kaieteur News – A 67-year-old man was found dead Sunday morning in his home at Obama Drive, South Amelia’s Ward, Mackenzie, Linden.
Dead is, Calton “Country” Jacobs, a labourer who lived alone in an unfinished two-storey wooden and concrete house with a partially fenced yard.
Police believe Jacobs died between 16:10 on Saturday and 06:40 on Sunday. His body was found by a friend and frequent visitor, 40-year-old contractor Collin Ceres, who reported the discovery to the police.
Ceres told police that Jacobs, who suffered from asthma, had visited him on Saturday around 16:00. “He visited Jacobs at his home and gave him a small Coca-Cola and a Smalta to drink. Ceres said he spent about 10 minutes with Jacobs, then went away,” police said.
Ceres told police that Jacobs appeared unwell at the time and that he noticed a bruise and swelling around Jacobs’s left eye and additional bruises on his forehead. According to Ceres, he offered to take Jacobs to the hospital, but Jacobs refused.
Ceres returned the next morning around 06:40 and found Jacobs lying motionless in front of his house. He contacted the police, who arrived thereafter. “The body of the deceased man was seen lying motionless on his back on the ground. It was about five feet away from the front of his house with the doors open,” police said.
A police examination revealed bruising around Jacobs’s left eye and forehead, as well as old bruises on his left hand and left side of his abdomen. Notably, no blood stains were observed in or around the home or yard.
The scene and body were video recorded, photographed and processed by crime scene ranks. Additionally, 269 grams of cannabis were discovered in Jacobs’s store room.
The body was removed by D/Cpl Peters and taken to the Linden Hospital Complex, where Jacobs was officially pronounced dead. His body has since been transported to Pensioner Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
